Designing a HIPAA-Compliant Healthcare Architecture

With the underlying model validated, the focus shifted to building a platform that could operate securely in healthcare environments. HIPAA compliance and the protection of sensitive patient information were embedded throughout the platform architecture, shaping how users accessed the system, how healthcare data moved across workflows, and how information was managed. Orases designed the platform around HIPAA requirements for security, privacy, access, and data handling, creating a secure and scalable foundation for remote care delivery.

Integrating DICOM Imaging and PACS for Remote Diagnostics

Medical imaging was fundamental to enabling specialists to evaluate patients remotely.

Orases designed DICOM-compliant imaging workflows and PACS integration that allowed diagnostic images to move securely between imaging technicians and remote specialists. Dedicated technician and provider experiences gave each user access to the information and tools required at their stage of the diagnostic process.

Enabling Medical Billing and Reimbursement

A fundamental requirement of the remote care model was ensuring providers could be reimbursed at the same rate as traditional in-office visits. To make that possible, the platform needed to support the billing, documentation, and reimbursement requirements that govern established healthcare delivery.

Although the platform was initially designed around ophthalmology, its workflows and underlying architecture were built with broader specialty care delivery in mind. Rather than creating a point solution for a single specialty, Orases built an extensible architecture that can accommodate new clinical workflows, provider types, diagnostic requirements, and specialty-specific functionality as Procul Cura expands.

This approach provides a scalable technology foundation that can support more than 80 physician subspecialties without rebuilding the core platform for each new area of care.
