As a government entity, it was important that OED’s website have two key components: it had to be easily updated to reflect the most up-to-date information, and it needed to be secure. With a dated site built on a ColdFusion proprietary Content Management System (CMS), making updates to the website was a cumbersome and time-consuming process. The site was also extremely slow and had some major security issues. It didn’t tell the story of Frederick County and it didn’t provide the necessary resources for businesses within and outside the community.

The first step Orases took was developing a new site on their custom 24Watch® CMS. This easy-to-use management system allows OED to update information easily and quickly. Orases also introduced new backend modules, like events and blog, to help get important and educational information to the business community. The next step was creating a strategy for the content of the site. Orases audited the Domain Name System (DNS) and content to make sure everything on the site was up to date and useful for the site’s visitors. They also developed a strategy for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and developed a list of keywords for OED to use throughout the site to improve their search engine ranking.

Since the site was launched—on time and on budget—OED has more people coming to their site than ever before. Their new content is proving useful for visitors and is more user-friendly and secure. Most importantly, the client is happy and the new website tells the story of OED and the Frederick business community.
