Replacing Legacy Systems With Custom Solutions
How Orases improved the visibility, awareness and engagement for the Worst Pills, Best Pills website
Worst Pills, Best Pills was founded in 1971 by Public Citizen’s Health Research Group in an effort to counteract the dangerous and ineffective drugs they believe have not been properly labeled by the FDA. Through annual subscriptions, individuals can find potentially life-saving information on drugs they have either been prescribed or purchased over-the-counter, as well as receive recommendations for safer alternative drugs.

The Challenge
Rebuilding a legacy website
Worst Pills, Best Pills wanted to improve their website to enhance back-office processes. They needed the ability to perform research, make client portal updates and make changes to their website in real time. Additionally, they wanted their new site to be mobile-friendly to capture a larger audience.
The original website was built on outdated versions of ASP and ColdFusion, making it hard for any changes to be made or other software to be integrated. Worst Pills, Best Pills hoped to move away from this and receive a custom solution using the newest technology, such as PHP and Apache.
Solution
A brand-new website and subscriber portal
Orases built a custom solution that streamlined processes and improved functionality. Our team developed an E-commerce platform that integrates with the subscriber portal for real-time updates and purchases to be made. We also created documentation on the entire project, enabling employees and web administrators to understand the capabilities of the website and web portal.
Their new client portal is heavily focused on UI/UX, allowing subscribers to locate information on their drugs in 3 clicks or less. The site speed and responsiveness have also dramatically increased, helping individuals navigate the website and web portal faster. Subscribers can now receive automated updates when drug information changes, as well as a monthly newsletter.
Results
Increased brand involvement
Prior to the website rebuild and code refactor, Worst Pills, Best Pills was facing difficulty spreading awareness of their project and increasing their subscribers. Now, they have been able to gain more clients and enjoy a growing number of new users every day.
Worst Pills, Best Pills now has a fully responsive website, working on desktop, tablet and mobile. As a result, they have been able to capture several new consumers who may otherwise have not discovered them. They now enjoy an increase in client engagement, overall subscriptions and website speed.
