A2LA Increases Membership Rate With Orases
How Orases improved the design, functionality and user experience of A2LA’s website
American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) is one of the largest accreditation bodies in the world. For nearly fifty years, A2LA has been focused on the formal recognition of competent testing and calibration laboratories (including medical laboratories), biobanking facilities, inspection bodies, product certification bodies, proficiency testing providers, and reference material producers.
With over 4,000 actively accredited certificates representing all 50 US states and more than 50 countries, they are the only independent, 501(c)3, non-profit, internationally recognized accreditation body in the United States offering a full range of accreditation services.

The Challenge
Finding the right solution
One of the biggest challenges with the A2LA website was the content management system it was hosted on. The website was not only difficult to navigate for users, but also challenging to manage and display the hundreds of accreditations that A2LA offers. In addition, users found difficulty with attempting to register for memberships and schedule time on their old website calendar. A2LA required a solution for their website that could improve user engagement, ease of use and, ultimately, a higher membership registration rate.
Solution
Redesigning the website
Orases began by redesigning the A2LA.org website to provide an updated, fresh look and feel while maintaining current branding. We migrated the existing website database, content and critical functionality to a WordPress content management system while maintaining as much existing content and SEO integrity as possible, improving on the website’s Information Architecture and providing a more intuitive user experience.
The accreditations section of the website was refactored to simplify navigation and direct users to their desired accreditations faster. The overall design and navigation were also improved to better reflect the professionalism and attention to detail demonstrated by the A2LA organization. Additionally, we migrated their event calendar into A2LAWPT.org’s own content management system.
Results
Better websites mean greater conversions
In the end, Orases took a website that was once too difficult to navigate and turned it into a responsive, digestible layout. With a more modern design and better ease of use, the A2LA website has seen a ton of new users, as well as membership registration. Moreover, the A2LA organization can now add more accreditations to their site without any knowledge of HTML or programming languages.
Since all their website content is now well-organized and easier to access, users are able discover the information they need faster. This has worked to significantly reduce the number of pages a user had to visit on the previous site before they could finally reach the membership registration page.
